The Castle, Palace and Hermitage of San Martín de Muñatones was declared an Historic Artistic monument in 1944. It is the only castle in Vizcaya which conserves its genuine characteristics. Muñatones Castle in Muskiz, one of the most notable fortresses of Vizcaya, was constructed in the mid-15th century by the chronicler Lópe García de Salazar.
