Traveling in Euskal Herria

Information for tourists. Documentation, accommodation and gastronomic recommendations.

1. Hostel Card

  • Description
Provides people of all ages with inexpensive accommodation in more than 5.000 hostels around the world. The majority of which are located in areas where outdoor activities can be practiced.


  • Types of Cards

1. Juvenile: for people between 14 and 30 years of age (if in possession of Gazte-Txartela, the tariff is reduced).

2. Adult: for people over 30 years of age.

3. Family: for a family unit with children under 14 years of age.

4. Group: for organizations, professors or adults in charge of school groups or youth organization groups that are planning to travel for educational purposes. The group must have a minimum of 10 people including the person responsible.

Traveling foreigners who do not have the Hostel card are able to purchase welcome stamps in the youth hostels and stay there. When 6 stamps have been collected they are entitled to a Hostel Card with a validity of 12 months from the date of the purchase of the first stamp. The stamps are sold in all international hostels and the cost of each stamp is 3 euros.

Present your National Identification Document (DNI) or Passport in office closest to you and pay the tariff according to the type of card selected.

International Card

  • Description
Created for people under 26 years of age, it offers discounts and special prices in transport, accommodation, museums, theaters, cinemas, etc. Information on the advantages offered can be consulted in the guide provided with the card. The card is valid for a year and can be obtained by visiting the offices listed on the following webpage: Youth Information Services or you can also apply for the card through the Internet at International Card by filling out the form at the bottom of the page.


  • What you need to get the card

Payment options

1. Payment in a bank: Chose this option if you wish to pay the fee in any of the following financial entities: Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa (BBK), Caja Vital, Gipuzkoa Donostia Kutxa, Caja Laboral/Euskadiko Kutxa, Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA), Banco Guipuzcoano y Santander Central Hispano (BSCH). You must print the bank payment slip generated by your computer and go to any of the aforementioned banks.

2. Electronic payment: This option can be used if you have requested your card via the Internet. Choose this option if you possess debit or credit cards or are an online user of any of the following financial entities: Bilbao Bizkaia Kutxa (BBK), Caja Vital, Gipuzkoa Donostia Kutxa, Caja Laboral/Euskadiko Kutxa y Banco Guipuzcoano.

3. International Student’s Card

  • Description

Created for higher education students that can present an official document that certifies they are currently enrolled in an academic course. Recognized worldwide, it proves the bearer is a student and enables them to enjoy discounts and special prices in transport, accommodation, museums, theaters, cultural centers and historical areas all over the world.

  • Requirements

Must be older than 12 and be enrolled in an officially recognized academic institution:

1. Superior education students (university, college, technical school, etc.)

2. Secondary education students

3. Language students enrolled in the Official Language Schools or in Euskaltegis.

4. Other recognized institutions (music studies, professional training, etc.)

1. 1 passport sized photo

2. Document that certifies condition of student

International educator’s card

  • Description

This international identification card has been created for people employed as educators in officially recognized educational institutions. It allows the bearer to enjoy discounts and special prices in transport, accommodation, museums, theaters, cultural centers and historical areas all over the world, advantages that can be consulted in the guide provided with the card.

  • Payment options
