Education
1996 Ph.D., Basque Studies (Language and Literature), Univ. of Nevada, Reno. Dissertation: Emakumeen Hitzak Euskaraz: Basque Women Writers of the Twentieth Century.
Research Interests
Genre fiction in Basque literature, the new women writers, Basque women who write in Spanish, and the effect of nationalism on Basque women’s lives. Through bertsolaritza, I have an interest in oral literature.
Honors
2000 Mousel-Feltner Award for Excellence in Research and/or Creative
Activity, granted by College of Arts and Science at UNR for quantity and
quality of publications.
1993 Inducted into the Basque Hall of Fame by the Society of Basque Studies
in America for her “extraordinary contributions to Basque culture” as a teacher,
translator and lexicographer of the Basque language.
