for Research at the Center for Basque Studies

en Español

A stipend of up to $1,200 is offered to help with travel costs (airfare and possibly other costs) for scholars to come from the Basque Country and other regions to Reno, Nevada. The stipend will be payable as a travel reimbursement, thus the visitor may not receive the funds until a few weeks after arriving in Reno.

The goal of these monies is to facilitate travel for scholars with an interest in Basque studies to come to Reno in order to conduct research. Preference will be given to those whose research projects coincide with the materials available in the Basque Library here in Reno. There is also the possibility of taking intensive English language classes while in Reno.

The recipient of the stipend will determine his/her length of stay, but it is assumed that this will be for at least three weeks.

Other expenses

The recipient should also consider other expenses that will accrue during his/her stay in Reno. These include:

Lodging – apartment rent (between $400-$600 a month; only available for longer stays) or hotel costs ($40-$50 a day). LODGING RESERVATIONS MUST BE MADE EARLY!! Please let us know well in advance if you would like assistance with finding lodging.

Optional English classes at the University’s Intensive English Language Center (4 hours a day), normally $900 for a 5-week summer session (UPV scholars will get a 25% discount).
