Description

The lighthouse of Getaria exists due to the fact that the Isle of San Antón, in the centre of the bay, was often confused with the mountains at the back, leading to several shipwrecks. For this reason, in 1813 it was decided to build a lighthouse in the Shrine of San Antón.

Vehicles are not allowed to enter and the mount of San Antón is now a park and leisure area for the people of Getaria. The tower is 21 mhigh and the lamp is focused at 93 m above sea level. The best view is obtained from the road running along the coast.
