The Social Economy is about a specific way of setting up enterprises; a way characterised by dynamic and agile behaviour as well as an unquestionable presence in society. The concept covers any type of business that integrates all the organisational innovations and their corresponding legal figures emerging in response to the different needs of social cohesion.

The Social Economy enterprise is an entrepreneurial method that embodies the following values:

  • Putting people and the social aim before capital
  • Corporate organisation and culture that encourage participatory and democratic management
  • Conjunction of the interests of user members and the general interest
  • Defence and application of the principles of solidarity and responsibility among its members
  • Autonomy of management and independence with respect to the authorities
  • Most of the surpluses being devoted to achieving aims in favour of the general interest, services for its members and sustainable development

Social Economy families: another business method of creating jobs and wealth:

  • Cooperatives > democratic structure and functioning
  • Worker-owned Enterprises > capital of the workers
  • Friendly Societies > social welfare
  • Insertion Enterprises > social and labour integration of people in a situation of exclusion
  • Special Employment Centres > training and employment for disabled people
  • Foundations > capital resources at the service of the general interest
