BOOKS - About CBS Press

History

Publications have always been a central part of the mission of the Center for Basque Studies since its inception. The first Occasional Papers were published in the early 1980s under the leadership of Bill Douglass. As publishing at the CBS evolved, many distribution and sales roles were taken care of by the University of Nevada Press. This arrangement ended in 2009 when the CBS Press became a fully independent entity responsible for all aspects of publishing, marketing, distribution, and sales. In that same year we launched our web store and began our own distribution arrangements with bookstores, libraries, and online retailers like Amazon.

Mission

The Center for Basque Studies is the premier international research institution in its field. A primary part of its mission is the publication, in English, of a wide range of books on Basque culture, history, anthropology, and literature, among many other topics. The Center’s mission is also to promote and encourage interest in the Basque people and their culture, as well as to further scholarship of the highest quality on Basque-related topics. In order to accomplish this overall mission, the Center recognizes that a strong and self-sustaining publishing business is one of the best means with which to meet these goals.
