The Basque Cultural Center’s
Basque Educational Organization presents a special lecture by Dr. Oscar
Alvarez, of the University of the Basque Country, who will present his
research on the history of the image of Basque Immigration in American
Cinema. Dr. Alvarez will give a general overview of the question -how American films have presented Basque-Americans, how many films, a short timeline, a general perspective of the image of Basque immigrants (most of the characters in American cinema have presented Basques as Sheepherders, Winemakers, Jai-Alai players and Terrorist). Afterwards Dr. Alvarez will screen examples from several TV series with Basque characters. |

Dr. Oscar Alvarez Dr. Álvarez
holds a Ph.D. degree in History and teaches American History at the
University of the Basque Country. During the 2008-2009 academic year he
was Visiting Fellow at the European Studies Centre in St. Antony’s
College, Oxford & in 2010-2011 the William A. Douglass Distinguished
Visiting Scholar at the Center for Basque Studies, University of Nevada
at Reno. |
