For the fourth year in a row, the Basque Fest Festival will transform Bilbao into the scene of a great celebration of Basque culture, much like Jaialdi in Boise or NABO Conventions in the US, or Semana Vasca in Argentina, with a huge program of activities, more than 140. The event is dedicated to visitors who come during Holy Week, as well as to the locals with concerts, exhibitions of Herri Kirolak (rural sports), theater, dances and expositions, as well as a txoko dedicated to Basque food and its quality products.

The death last Sunday, in a car accident, of member Francisco Bazurto was quite a blow for many members of the institution that is the little big family of the Eusko Etxea of New York. Another Basque, visiting from the Basque Country is in critical condition. After thinking about it, the EENY has decided to go ahead with next Sunday’s Aberri Eguna celebration, but with a different format dedicated to these two. Patxi’s funeral will take place on Thursday in Queens.

Juan Mari Fundazuri has quit as the Pelotari's Union Representative (UAW-IJAPA), after retiring from professional sports on January 13th. As he told EuskalKultura.com, “the union has not chosen a new representative yet, but I guess they will soon.” Fundazuri has mixed feelings about his new reality and doesn't forget that the sport's future is still in a compromised situation, even though Florida's House of Representatives has again postponed the decision about whether to allow Frontons to install slot machines−their most important game to date.
